“Extra-curricular activities are a positive and enriching experience for young people, promoting not only positive educational outcomes but also offering the possibility for developing a wider set of skills beyond the qualifications obtained from school.” Social Mobility Commission
It is widely recognised that the broad range of opportunities that the extended school day offers, can boost young people's confidence to interact socially with others; extend their social networks; and provide them with new skills and abilities. Above all, they offer an important space to have fun and relax away from the pressures of school work.
The term “extended school day” encompasses a broad range of opportunities including morning and after school clubs, lunchtime clubs, residential opportunities and holiday clubs, all of which provide children and young people with a rich cultural capital. Therefore, it is important to ensure that our offer is robust, enriching and relevant to our student population.
At the Sea View Trust we have experience in providing a broad range of wider opportunities which have been recognised by OFSTED as ensuring that pupils are happy and well prepared for life beyond school. Therefore, we are delighted to offer our audit and support package to schools who are looking to evaluate their offer and develop it further.
