What's the Big Idea for SEND?

The Sea View Trust, located in the North West of England, is currently comprised of 3 mainstream primary academies, 3 special academies and a specialist college.

Our vision is to work as a cohesive and inclusive Trust, bringing together culturally aligned partners where a climate of nurture and respect leads to challenge, aspiration and achievement for all.

In partnership with the Blackpool Research School, curriculum hubs, universities, schools and Trusts, we have secured an excellent reputation at local, regional and national levels, including producing our free resource SEND Development Pathways for the School Workforce in collaboration with Whole School SEND and the DfE.

What’s the BIG idea for SEND?

This Innovation for SEND project was delivered in partnership with Whole School SEND and the DfE. Our remit was to identify, evaluate, document, sustain, validate and scale-up promising school/college initiatives which benefit children and young people with SEND. The ambition was to create an accessible national database to widely share what works for learners with SEND. Project participants will receive high-quality, free CPD to share their ideas and support their engagement in simple, effective, class-based research.

Usage Examples & Core Components

  • Innovation & Scaling: Identifying and documenting pioneering practices to be scaled up nationally.
  • Individual Support Plans (ISPs): Implementing tailored plans for students to ensure personalized support.
  • Whole-School Approach: Shifting responsibility from just the SENCO to all teachers and staff, supported by training and resources.
  • Co-production: Engaging families and young people to design services, ensuring they are user-focused.
  • Effective Resource Allocation: Using evidence-based practices to ensure funding makes a positive impact, such as using TAs to foster independence rather than dependency
