Celebrating Futures: National Careers Week 2026 at The Sea View Trust

As National Careers Week approaches, running from the 2nd to the 7th of March 2026, The Sea View Trust is thrilled to announce a dedicated week of activities designed to inspire and guide our students towards their future pathways. This year, we're placing a special emphasis on providing comprehensive career exploration for both our secondary school pupils and our learners at Valley College, our specialist SEND provision.

At The Sea View Trust, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to discover their potential and pursue a fulfilling career. National Careers Week provides the perfect platform to ignite curiosity, demystify different industries, and connect students with invaluable resources and experiences. We understand that navigating the world of work can be daunting, and our goal is to empower our young people with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their post-education journey.

Throughout the week, our secondary schools will be hosting a range of engaging events. These will include interactive workshops, insightful presentations from local businesses and professionals, and opportunities for students to explore various career sectors. We'll be focusing on skill development, understanding different career routes (including apprenticeships, vocational training, and higher education), and the importance of lifelong learning.

For our learners at Valley College, National Careers Week is an equally vital time. Our specialist SEND provision is committed to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their needs, has access to meaningful career guidance and opportunities. Activities at Valley College will be tailored to provide accessible and engaging explorations of potential career paths, focusing on individual strengths and aspirations. This might include practical work experience tasters, visits from employers who champion inclusive workplaces, and one-to-one guidance to help learners build their confidence and identify suitable routes into employment or further training.

Leading the charge in orchestrating these invaluable opportunities is our incredibly dedicated Trust Careers Lead, Louise Taylor. Louise's passion for helping young people unlock their potential is truly inspiring, and her commitment to fostering strong career guidance across our Trust is inspiring.

Here's a special introduction from Louise herself:

In 2023 I returned back to my routes as careers advisor, being away from the profession for over 15 years a lot has changed, so I hit the ground running in networking and making links with all the local provisions within Lancashire and there offers.  I upskilled recently to Level 6 CEIAG achieving the level needed to support me in my role as careers Advisor.  I chose SEND as my Son was diagnosed aged 6 with ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorder and I wanted to give something back.  I absolutely love seeing the learners achieve so many amazing things, they are an inspiration.

My role is Careers Advisor is to unlock their hopes, dreams and support them onto their next steps.  I work for the SVT covering the secondary, FE and Adults provisions across the Trust.  My role isn't necessarily creating the curriculum, but what you could say is that each provision across the trust has a dedicated careers leader, who supports all those things listed in the brief, and works alongside LT to support our learners to thrive and reach for their future dreams, hopes and aspirations!

My role in brief is careers guidance appointments (CEIAG) on a 1 to 1 with Secondary KS4, FE and our VC adult learners, I also support in sourcing work experiences and placements to match the learners' aspirations where possible.  I engage with a variety of employers for placements and other things such as talks and tour for our learners.  I support learner transitions, applications and liaise with all Training providers and Colleges across Lancashire, plus offer events such as Bright Futures and Future pathways throughout the academic year.  I am always looking at adding extras so this academic year I am hoping to bring a "sensory world of work" to be inclusive to all learners.
